You made me laugh, you even made me cry....

Ok, so the review of her speech may be a couple days late, but in light of McCain's choice for a running mate many questions concerning the women's vote have risen.

Hilary's speech was so powerful and so moving that I swear I had goose bumps for 75% of it.

With Sarah Palin all over the news it is important to remind all those Hilary fanatics what Hilary said herself in her speech, "Were you only in it for me?" Hilary reminds us that Obama supports universalized health care, better education, equal work for equal pay and many other issues that Hilary ran for. Jezebel said it best when writing about Sarah Palin,"When Chosing a Woman Might Not Be Choosing for Women." Hilary stated over and over again that four more years of the past eight years will not offer the progression we need.

So, to those women who are die hard Hilary advocates and say they will vote for McCain merely to teach America a lesson, you need to realize that while you whole-heartedly support Hilary, she does not support your decision. And if this Sarah Palin trick solidifies your decision, then you are a giant sucker. You wanted Hilary because of what she has done for women, her experience, and the power of her voice. Imagine if McCain became President and his health took a turn for the worse (which is a possible scenario at the age of 72), would you really feel comfortable with Sarah Palin in power?

Watch the speech again, and imagine in eight years President Obama singing his praises to the next Presidential candidate, Hilary Rodham Clinton.

The Speech

Well this is, um, interesting.

McCain has picked Alaska governor Sarah Palin to be his running mate. I understand this decision on a basic level; Palin supports drilling in the Alaska National Wildlife Refuge, is a member of the NRA, and is by all accounts a God-fearing Republican.

This is all well and good, except for the fact it is so freaking obvious that Palin was chosen because she is a woman. In a bid to pull over the undecided Hillary Clinton voters (“Look! She has boobs!”) McCain has put aside his primary attack of the Obama campaign (experience) and picked a former small town mayor with two years of executive experience in ALASKA (Population: 670,053. The city of Chicago has four times the number of people.).

The assumption that women will jump ship and vote for McCain because THIS IS YOUR CHANCE to put a woman in the white house is downright insulting. I would prefer to wait for someone who shares my beliefs, thank you. The women who were voting for Hillary Clinton simply because she is a woman are feminists to their core. These women believe in equal pay for equal work, they believe in providing health care for those who need it most and in protecting a woman’s right to choose. Sure, there was an aspect of wishing to say “Madame President,” but at the end of the day these women are not interested in putting a woman into power if said woman is, well, Republican.

Okay, okay. I know there are Hillary supporters who are currently undecided. Who threaten to vote for McCain. These women are not going to be nudged to the right by the fact that Palin is female. These women maintain that they are either 1) Hillary Clinton (not Sarah Palin) fans to the death or 2) concerned about “experience.”

Speaking of experience… what? Who is this woman? How is she somehow more qualified than to be President than Barack Obama? I’m confused. This woman was mayor of a town (a town!) just a little larger than my college. Why didn’t McCain just pick my student body president? I am sure she would LOVE to be on the ticket. The White House can hold car washes to bring down the deficit!

Then again, this choice might be brilliant. She loves her family, goes to church, helps her community and cares about education. Sarah Palin will appeal to suburban soccer moms (just like her!) whose votes, you might recall, helped put Bush in office. Should the Democrats be worried?

Like a good patriot, I did a little research on (aka "googled") Joe Biden to see what my man Obama was getting himself into. He has done some pretty amazing things for women via his dedication to The Violence Against Women Act.

Over 50 and Bitchin'

Did you think you were, once again, going to read an article about the amazing Madonna, and all she has done for music over the years but has no wrinkles to prove it!?! So sorry to disappoint. All the recent news regarding Madge's five-O made me stop and think, "What other amazing females musicians are over 50 and even more bitchin' then this pop princess?" It didn't take long to discover the perfect answer: Kim Gordon.

That's right. Her 55th birthday was on April 28th and you all forgot! Why is that? Hmmm, for starters, because she didn't use her body to try to sell her talent, but more importantly she took chances with her music and challenged audiences to listen to music outside their comfort realms. In short, she is unique and innovative. She portrays women as warriors, not merely survivors or victims.

This woman is doing something new and cool every week, and I don't mean dying her hair a different color or putting herself on a cross during live shows.

If any of your grew up in Salt Lake City, like yours truly, then you will indeed remember this man: our very own Govna Mike Leavitt. Under the Bush administration Leavitt has quickly jumped from being the head of the EPA to his present position as the Health and Human Resources Secretary. In these troubling times it probably doesn't surprise you that a right-winged, God-fearing Christian has some control over your health and humanly resources, but that's no reason to give up.
I received an email today from Moveon.org informing me of the Bush Administration's evil plot to redefine "abortion" to include birth control pills. Interesting; does that I mean I have an abortion every day right after I brush my teeth when I swallow that little tiny pill?
Needless to say they need signatures to send to Secretary Leavitt to tell him and Bush what a jerk move this is.
